Activity Levels

Technical Level

This trip is rated as Intermediate (2/4): recommended for athletes who have already gone backcountry a couple of times, can navigate the mountain, descend moderate to steep slopes without issues and are familiar with the equipment.

Physical demand

This trip is rated as Challenging (3/5): recommended for athletes with good physical condition. Daily activity time may be up to 6 hours, distances covered may be up to 18 km, positive elevation may be up to 1000m, and you may reach an altitude of up to 4,500 meters above sea level.

If this date doesn’t suit you or you want to go with your own group, the rates are as follows (prices per person).

Day 1: Group meet at ZCO Airport

  • Guides pick up everyone at Temuco Airport (ZCO)
  • Road trip to the wooded village of Malalcahuello, where we’ll settle in for 5 nights.

Day 2 : Lonquimay Volcano & Corralco Resort

  • For our first day on the mountain, we’ll warm up at Corralco ski resort.
  • By midday, we ascend to the summit of Lonquimay Volcano.

Day 3: Sierra Nevada Volcano Freeride

  • The second day is all about freeriding on a neighboring volcano, Sierra Nevada.

Day 4: Native Lands

  • We’ll venture deep into unexplored native valleys.
  • Spend the entire day skiing through this pristine landscape.
  • At day’s end, we return to our lodging in Malalcahuello.

Day 5: Hot Springs Break

  • Today is for relaxation, and what better way than soaking in hot springs.
  • We’ll visit natural hot springs at the foot of Sierra Nevada Volcano.

Day 6: Llaima Volcano Approach

  • We start our journey south early in the morning.
  • After passing through incredible Andean native villages, we reach our next stop: Melipeuco.
  • By midday, we prepare our gear to approach and camp at Llaima Volcano.
  • Approach, set up camp, and dine on the mountain.

Day 7: Llaima Volcano Summit

  • We kick off the day early with breakfast at the campsite.
  • Ascend to the summit of Llaima.
  • After the day’s adventure, we return to town and refuel at a great local restaurant.
  • Accommodation in Melipeuco.

Day 8: Sollipulli Volcano

  • A summit day to a volcano of special beauty.
  • This relatively low volcano has a huge crater, 4km (13,120ft) in diameter with a glacier inside.
  • An easy and short ascent to enjoy the surroundings.
  • We return to Melipeuco for a well-deserved ‘asado’ (barbecue) with all the team.

Day 9: Brunch and Goodbye

  • We have our final group breakfast together.
  • Pack up all our belongings and travel to Temuco Airport.

Although we do everything possible to stick to the previous schedule, the itinerary and departure in general are subject to change for numerous reasons, mainly to seek out better snow conditions. In the Andes you will always find fresh powder, let’s go for it!

Here’s the gear list for your adventure. If you tend to get cold in wintery conditions, especially when you’re not moving around, bring extra layers. Dressing appropriately and having the right gear will help the guides provide a safer and more fun experience for the group. In the Andes, the weather can be harsh and change quickly and drastically.
